Movie Review - Little Miss Sunshine

Dysfunctional family – something about which I know a thing or two, so I can appreciate this movie a great deal. Little Miss Sunshine, this creative and unexpected indie comedy, absolutely stole my heart! The premise of the film is a family of four losers (all with their issues, except adorable little 10 year old Olive), a suicidal gay uncle, and heroin-snorting dirty geezer grandpa, road tripping to California in a rapidly degenerating VW bus, so that Olive can attend the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. Each character was a study in himself, and the interaction between this cast was phenomenal – it was funny, heartwarming, ugly at times, and REAL.

You may have seen that it won Best Original Screenplay last night at the Oscars ceremony, and was nominated for Film of the Year. If you haven’t gone to see it yet, you really should…it's on video currently.

Happy Monday!

Love, Mer
