Ab Fab Diaper Bag

OK, so the nursery furniture has been chosen, the bedding has been purchased and some very special people in my life are helping out with some of the accessories. My mother is making the "bink bink" (this is what I called my baby blanket when I was little; by the way, this blanket still resides in my closet and I'll be 33 shortly!), Sheridan's mother is painting watercolors for the walls, and Gina just told me that she's starting a quilt for the little guy, too. I think I have made the list of everything I need, where to find it, and have registered for my showers. I'm getting more and more prepared every day!

However, I'm stumped on a diaper bag. I have looked at a million online and it's just SO overwhelming! I like the thought of something functional that can hang on the handles of the stroller - perhaps something that would match the carseat/ stroller/ theme of the nursery, but then again, do I really want to carry around something babyish on my shoulder? I'm thinking that perhaps I should go with the "fab mommy" theme. You know, like "fashion plate was blessed with a baby" type of bag... But then again, I don't want to spend TOO much... So how does one combine all those factors into the perfect diaper bag? Again, I'm stumped.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a really fabulous, yet reasonable and functional baby bag?

Please help! This is a serious inquiry!

Love, Mer

Ok, you must check out these: http://www.petuniapicklebottom.com/

A few things:

1. Yes, they are a little pricey, but you will be carrying this thing around for a LONG time and EVERYWHERE you go. I say it's worth it to spend a little more to get a good looking, well functioning diaper bag. It will be your best friend for a while.

2. I had one of these and I loved it. There are many different styles, but I had one like this:

It can be carried as a backpack or you can adjust the straps to be a shoulder bag or you can make that strap longer to be more of a sling. The front flap of the bag folds out into a changing pad that stays connected to the bag. So you don't have to carry one, taking up space IN the bag and what if you forget it?? Not a problem with this bag...it's connected! It has great little pockets on the inside that hold two bottles and pockets on the outside that do the same. It has pockets right near the changing pad fold-out that are perfectly sized for little diapers.

Ok, so longest blog comment ever, officially over!

Hope that helps.

I have the Emily Storksak and I've been using it as a bag before the baby's even here. I love it!

Dana got the Petunia Pickle Bottom Scout bag for himself... very cool, grey felt, manly. It's a little big for me, but great for him.

They're both pricey, but we shopped for them online a few months ago and found them both significantly marked down.

Have fun! Love the blog!

Awesome!! Two votes for the Petunia Pickle Bottom bags... They do have some really cool bags! I like the backpack because of that cool attached changing pad, but the tote is also really cute. I'm loving your metallic bag too, Kristen... Those are some really great options! Thanks so much!

Right now, I'm totally and madly in love with this one (plus, I found a discount code that makes it only $75...)! http://02b5f71.netsolstores.com/hautegrayson-bl.aspx It has a changing pad inside, but no insulated spot for bottles. I wonder if they sell baby bottle coozie-like things; surely they do, right? It might get a little heavy, when I'm out for long periods of time, but on those days, I'll use the stroller basket or make Sheridan bring the one that I just bought him: http://www.diaperbagboutique.com/Diaper-Dude-102-KQ1003.html#ProdDetails :)

Or this one's kind of cute, functional, and fun, but not as fabulous as the one above... http://www.duematernity.com/skhopdeda.html

Thanks everyone, for your input!! I'll let you know what I end up deciding...

I think mine was from www.babystyle.com...maybe the "un-diaper bag". I liked it a lot--not as cool as the Petunia Picklebottom with the connected changing pad but I felt that it was very functional. Good luck--it really is a big decision since you will be attached to that freakin' thing for the next year! : )
